Our backyard after the Myzer renovation, the project that started the company.

We Called Over 100 Vegas Contractors for One Backyard. Here's What We Learned.

Most people say to get three estimates before you hire someone for a home improvement project. Three is fine. Heck, one estimate is the bare minimum and the common result. However, one, two, or three estimates is not where the good decisions live.

We learned that the hard way, in our own backyard.

The backyard that started a company

Before Myzer was a business, it was a landscaping project at our own house. We did what you are supposed to do. We started reaching out to local pros.

To mix things up, we decided to contact 105 landscaping companies here in Las Vegas. Many struggled to communicate on time. Calls went unanswered. Voicemails not returned. Emails ignored. Some never followed up at all.

Fifty of them got back to us with a quote. Thirty actually came out to see the yard in person. And even then, only 25 of those 30 sent a real final number. The other five walked the project, nodded along, and ghosted.

Same yard. Same scope. Same everything. Across all those quotes, the estimates ranged from $8,000 to $50,000.

Read that again. The exact same project, with essentially the same materials and labor, priced anywhere from eight grand to fifty grand.

Our backyard, before and after. The project that became Myzer.

That range taught us the single most important thing we know about hiring for your home: price is way more than simply what you pay for.

Does expensive mean better? Does cheap mean a lack of quality?

Not necessarily. The most expensive quote is not automatically the most skilled, and the cheapest is not automatically a mistake waiting to happen.

What actually separates a great hire from a risky one is a combination of things: price, quality of work, communication, follow through, timing, and real reviews with real photos of past jobs. When you only look at price, you are grading a contractor on one number and ignoring everything else that decides whether the project goes well.

This is why three or fewer estimates can quietly cost you. Even with three, you do not have enough to see the pattern. You cannot tell if $18,000 is the going rate or a lucky middle. Somewhere between the tenth and the fifteenth conversation, the real picture shows up.

In our experience, ten or more is best.

What we built out of that backyard

The more projects we took on after that, the more we noticed the other side of the table too. We kept meeting genuinely great local pros, careful craftspeople doing beautiful work, who were nearly invisible online. No website, or one that had not been touched in years. Wrong phone numbers. Dead links. Talented people leaving real money on the table simply because customers could not find them or trust what they found.

So Myzer became two things at once. For homeowners, we are your project-minded partners, coordinating vendors, catching the red flags, and keeping your budget tight and your timeline honest. For local pros, we build the modern website and online presence their work deserves, so the right customers can find them.

One thing we are not, and never will be: we are not contractors. We do not swing the hammers. We are the people who make both sides of a great renovation work better.

The takeaway

That backyard taught us the single most useful thing we know about hiring for your home. Three quotes keeps you from the worst mistake. A lot more than three is how you actually find the right pro at the right price. And with more than 5,400 licensed contractors in Nevada alone, you have no shortage of options, which is exactly why how you choose matters so much.

You should not have to make 105 phone calls to feel confident about who you hire. That is our job now. We do the reaching out, the vetting, and the scheduling, so you get a short list of pros who actually earned your call, and your phone stays quiet.

Skip the 105 calls.
